Clayton, Deml to Participate in NCAA Development Conference
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior student-athletes Brandon Clayton and Amanda Deml have been selected to participate in one of two NCAA national student-athlete development conferences at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. Clayton has been selected for the May 25-27 session and Deml the May 27-29 session. All expenses will be paid in full by the NCAA.
The conferences provide student-athletes a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them an opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
Clayton and Deml were two of 1,840 student-athletes nominated to attend the conference from 462 Division I, II and III institutions. Seven hundred student-athletes, approximately 233 from each division, will participate.
Clayton, an all-MIAA defensive back, has 79 tackles and four interceptions in his three seasons with the Bearcats. He had 33 tackles this season in leading Northwest to its third consecutive NCAA championship game appearance.
Deml, the first Bearcat soccer player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, led Northwest with five goals and four assists in 2007. She had eight career goals and six assists in her three seasons with the Bearcats.
