Football Hosts Rally Saturday to Celebrate 2007 Season

MARYVILLE - Northwest Missouri State football, the 2007 national runner-up, invites the public for its annual postseason rally Saturday, Feb. 9, at Bearcat Arena. The Bearcats will host an autograph session beginning at 4 p.m. in the arena lobby, followed by team awards and a highlight film at 5:30 p.m.

Northwest went undefeated in MIAA play for the second straight season, picking up its 21st MIAA title. The Bearcats advanced to the Division II championship game for the third straight season after defeating two-time defending champion Grand Valley State in a home semifinal contest broadcast on ESPN2.

Head Coach Mel Tjeerdsma picked up career win No. 200 during the season while running back Xavier Omon led Division II in rushing yards, and became the first player in NCAA history to rush for 1,500 yards in all four seasons.

The Bearcats placed 10 athletes on the All-MIAA First Team, with Omon and linebacker Jared Erspamer named MIAA Most Valuable Offensive and Defensive Players, respectively. Tjeerdsma earned Coach of the Year honors for the ninth time in his 14 seasons.
