Omon, Peterson To Play in All-Star Game
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Xavier Omon and Mike Peterson, who completed four-year careers on the gridiron last fall, will compete in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star game Saturday at the Sun Bowl facilities in El Paso, Texas. The game can be seen on CSTV at 4 p.m. CST.
Both Bearcats are competing on the Texas team under the direction of coach Gene Stallings, who led Alabama to a national championship in 1992.
It's the second year of the All-Star game, which drew 21,548 fans last year. Team Nation won the inaugural contest 24-20.
Omon is one of four running backs on the Texas team, which comprises of 21 players who attended a Texas academic institution. Missouri Southern's Alley Broussard is also competing at the position as are James Johnson of Kansas State and Bethel College's Adrain Smith.
Peterson and West Texas A&M's Kolo Kapanui are two of the three tight ends on the team. Jake Sears of UTEP is the third. Peterson and the Bearcats defeated West Texas A&M 56-28 in the second round of the NCAA playoffs last fall. Kapanui had three catches for 27 yards in the contest. Peterson had three catches for 96.
Former NFL coach Buddy Ryan is at the helm of Team Nation. Both rosters feature more than 60 players each and comprise mostly of Division I athletes.
