Omon, Erspamer Earn Weekly MIAA Honors
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest seniors Xavier Omon and Jared Erspamer have been named the MIAA's Offensive and Defensive Football Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ended Oct. 7. Both turned in career-high performances during Northwest's 37-34 overtime win against No. 16 Pittsburg State Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
It's the fourth such honor for Omon in his career and first such honor for Erspamer.
Omon carried 34 times for a career-high 274 yards and scored all five Bearcat touchdowns. He scored the game-winner on a 4th-and-goal leap into the end zone in overtime. It was Omon's second five-touchdown performance in his last three games.
Omon leads the nation in scoring at 20.4 points per game. He has 17 touchdowns thru five games this season.
Erspamer reached his career high for tackles before halftime and finished with 16. He created one of Pittsburg State's two turnovers with a strip of quarterback Mark Smith in the third quarter. He also stopped Smith on 3rd-and-goal from the 2 in the second quarter.
Erspamer capped his performance with a 2-yard loss on quarterback Chadd Snyder in overtime two plays prior to the Gorilla's field goal. He leads the Bearcats with 40 tackles this season.
