More Preseason Accolades For Bearcat Football

MARYVILLE - The Northwest Missouri State football team received more preseason publicity as became the third publication to rank the Bearcats No. 2 in its Division II preseason poll. In addition, seniors Xavier Omon and Mike Peterson along with junior Reid Kirby were named Pre-Season All-Americans.

The Web site joined Lindy's Sports Annuals and Street & Smith in placing Northwest behind two-time defending champion Grand Valley State in its preseason poll. Pittsburg State (No. 12) and Missouri Western (No. 23) of the MIAA were also represented on the list. Nebraska-Omaha, which Northwest will face in game two of the regular season, is ranked sixth.

In addition to his selection by, Don Hansen's Football Gazette recently honored Omon in the same fashion. The senior tailback out of Beatrice, Neb., has named a preseason first-team All-American running back by four publications.

A two-time All-American in 2006, Omon is Northwest's all-time leading rusher with 4,736 yards. His 60 total touchdowns are also a program high.

Junior Kendall Wright was also named to Don Hansen's Preseason All-America Team. Wright, a wide receiver from Sulphur Springs, Texas, caught 83 passes for 1,151 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Bearcats.

This is the second preseason All-America selection for both Peterson and Kirby. and Lindy's both selected Peterson as a first-team tight end. Both publications selected Reid as a second-team offensive lineman.
