Northwest Ranked No. 2 in Lindy's Preseason Poll; Four Bearcats on All-Division II Teams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Northwest Missouri State football sits No. 2 in the Lindy’s Sports Annuals Division II Top 25 poll. Four Bearcats were also mentioned on it’s 2007 All-Division II Preseason Team. Senior running back Xavier Omon and senior tight end Mike Peterson earned first team honors while offensive lineman Reid Kirby and linebacker Jared Erspamer were mentioned on the second team.
Northwest was ranked No. 8 in the same poll last season, and finished as national runner-up in its fourth national championship game appearance with a 14-1 record.
Northwest is the only team in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with individuals on the All-Division II Team, and led Division II with four selections on the first and second teams. The only other MIAA team mentioned on the Top-25 poll, Pittsburg State, is No. 15. Defending national champion Grand Valley State is Lindy’s preseason favorite.
The Bearcats open the 2007 season against Arkansas Tech at Bearcat Stadium on Thurs., Aug. 23. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
