Greisen Named AFL Offensive Player of the Week
NEW YORK - Former Northwest Missouri State quarterback Chris Greisen was named the Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Week as quarterback of the Georgia Force, announced by the AFL on June 19. The Force ended its regular season 14-2 as Southern Division champions and receive a first-round bye in the playoffs that begin this weekend.
Greisen completed 27-of-37 passes for 323 yards and eight touchdowns as the Force defeated the Orlando Predators 55-44 on June 15. He led Georgia to scores on eight of the team's 10 possessions, including seven consecutive scoring drives to start the game. He set the all-time single-season record for passing touchdowns in a season in the game on a 45-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for the 106th of the season.
Greisen was a two-time selection to the AFCA All-America First Team and All-MIAA First Team in 1997-98. He led Northwest to its first national championship in 1998 as the first team in college football to go 15-0. Greisen holds MIAA records for passing yards in a season (all games) with 4,076 and touchdown passes with 38, both set in 1998. He was inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame as a member of 1998 team in 2005, and will be inducted as an individual in 2007.
Greisen and the Force will play in the Divisional Playoffs on July 8 at 6 p.m. CST in a game televised nationally on ESPN2.
