Bearcats Contribute 13 Tackles in All-Star Game
KINGSVILLE, Texas-Northwest Missouri State senior linebackers Matt Robertson and Jared Erspamer combined for 13 tackles for the West All-Stars at the 2008 Cactus Bowl Friday at Javelina Stadium. The East All-Stars defeated the West 42-13 in front of a crowd of 7,800. The West leads the all-time series 8-5-1.
Robertson and Erspamer were two of the six leading tacklers for the West squad. Robertson had seven tackles including one for loss and Erspamer finished with six.
The East squad outrushed the West 251-34 with the help of seven sacks and got a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown on the game's third play from scrimmage from linebacker Michael Eubanks.
A Harlon Hill national finalist from Delta State, Eubanks had three sacks, a forced fumble and a Cactus Bowl record five tackles for loss. He was named the game's Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Hillsdale quarterback Mark Nicolet threw for 103 yards and three touchdowns for the East team and was named the game's Most Valuable Offensive Player.
Robertson and Erspamer were the leading tacklers for the Bearcats this season. Both finished with more than 100 stops, becoming the first Northwest student-athletes to do so since 1999.
Northwest won its 21st MIAA championship in 2007 with a 9-0 record and finished 12-2 overall after losing to Valdosta State in the Division II national championship game.
