Former S-A Calbert Signs With Omaha Beef
OMAHA, Neb.-Former Northwest Missouri State football player and track star Diezeas Calbert has signed with the Omaha Beef of the United Indoor Football League (UIF) for the 2008 season. Calbert, a 2006 graduate of Northwest, was an all-region cornerback and All-American triple jumper for the Bearcats.
The Beef are under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Warren, a native of Springville, Mo., and a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers 1997 national championship team.
"Diezeas Calbert is a very athletic corner who is physical and possesses good speed, which will help both the secondary and special teams," said Warren as stated on the official release by the Beef.
Calbert had 146 tackles, 14 pass break-ups and three interceptions in his four-year career at Northwest spanning 2003-06. He also recovered two fumbles and blocked eight kicks, including five in his season season.
Calbert placed sixth in the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 1-2 inches. Calbert was a two-time MIAA triple-jump champion.
The Omaha Beef will begin their ninth season of professional indoor football in March 2008. All home games are played at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
The Beef will begin their fourth year as a member of the UIF. In the last two seasons, Omaha has finished with an 8-7 record. The Beef have never had a losing record in nine seasons and have reached the playoffs every year.
