Omon Receives Weekly FB League Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Northwest Missouri State junior Xavier Omon (Beatrice, Neb.), a 6-foot-1, 205-pound running back, was recognized as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the MIAA offices yesterday (Oct. 30). Omon posted a season-high 166 rushing yards on 23 carries as the No. 2 Bearcats remained undefeated with a 31-19 win at Central Missouri last Saturday (Oct. 28). This honor was Omon's second of his career after he notched one on Sept. 14, 2004 in his freshman campaign.
He had 149 yards on 18 carries in the first half in helping Northwest build a 17-6 halftime lead. He had a pair of 8-yard runs which set up the Bearcats' first touchdown in the second quarter.
Omon rushed four times for 52 yards, including a game-best 23-yard run which opened the drive, to set up Northwest's second TD later in the quarter after UCM had cut the Bearcats' lead to one. Overall, Omon recorded six rushes of over 10-yards, which is a season high. He needs 18 more yards this year to reach 1,000 on the season - that would give him three seasons in-a-row over 1,000 yards and put him as just the second back (since 1965) at Northwest to accomplish the feat.
Omon was limited to just five rushing attempts in the second half due to a rib injury for 17 yards.
The Beatrice High School product is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against Pittburg State in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead V.
