Northwest Football Stands No. 1 in First Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Northwest Missouri State football is ranked No. 1 in the initial Southwest Region poll, announced this afternoon by the NCAA offices. Sitting No. 2 nationally (Oct. 3) in the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA), Northwest downed Emporia State 49-17 last Saturday at Bearcat Stadium to improve to 6-0 on the season. The conference is represented by four teams in the top 12 regionally including Missouri Western at No. 2.

The polls will continue on Mondays every week with the top 6 teams in the final poll advancing to the 24-team playoff. The opening round of the playoffs are set to begin on Saturday, Nov. 18. The top two teams are awarded a first-round bye. Each conference is guaranteed one playoff team provided that the one team is ranked in the top 10 in the final regional rating. The Southwest poll is made up of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and the Lone Star Conference (LSC). This first poll has at least one program listed from each conference.
