Bearcats Ranked Second in AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll
WACO, Tex. - Northwest Missouri State football will start the 2006 season how it ended the last one, in the second spot in NCAA Division II rankings. The American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) has selected Northwest No. 2 in the AFCA Division II Coaches' Poll, announced today. The Bearcats are coming off a national runner-up status in 2005 as they welcome back 13 offensive and defensive starters.
Yesterday (Aug. 21), Northwest was mentioned third in the D2Football.com Top 25 (Media) Poll.
Two other Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) schools are part of the Top 25: Pittsburg State at No. 8 and defending league champion Washburn at No. 17. Central Missouri State was fourth on the "others receiving votes" list with 58 votes while Missouri Western received 30 votes. Nebraska-Omaha, who is the Sept. 9 opponent, holds down the 12th national ranking.
Northwest opens up its 2006 season at home versus Minnesota State on September 2 at 1 p.m.
