Northwest Picked Third in D2Football.com Poll; Waters Selected as Preseason All-America

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State football is mentioned as No. 3 in the D2Football.com
Top 25 Poll
, announced today (Aug. 21) by members of the D2Football.com Media Voting Panel. Senior defensive end Ryan Waters (Independence, Mo.) was tabbed as a 2006 D2Football.com Preseason All-American Second Team pick on the defensive line.

Weekly polls will be released every Tuesday by D2Football.com.

This award is Waters' second preseason hardware as he was named to the 2006 Don Hansen's Football Gazette Preseason All-America Team back on July 24. Waters finished last season with 64 tackles, 11 sacks, and one interception. He ranks fourth at Northwest with 16.5 lifetime sacks and tied for ninth with 29.0 tackles for loss. Waters, who is one of five team captains, was named to the 2005 All-MIAA Second Team Defense.

Northwest opens up its 2006 season at home versus Minnesota State on September 2 at 1 p.m. Northwest returns 14 starters from a 2005 program to go 11-4 and reach the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Northwest ended the season No. 2 in the final coaches' poll of the season.
