Football Ranked in Two Preseason Magazine Polls

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State football has been recognized in two 2006 preseason magazine polls, announced recently by the respective publications. Northwest was No. 5 in the 2006 Street & Smith's Top 25 Division II Preseason College Football Poll and No. 8 in the 2006 Lindy's Magazine NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25. The preseason rankings mark the 10th straight season Northwest has been tabbed in some form of a preseason poll.

Northwest is the highest ranked MIAA team in both polls and the highest ranked regional school (Southwest Region) in Street & Smith's. Overall, Pittsburg State (No. 6 / 14) and Washburn (No. 18 / 13) are the other two MIAA schools on the list and Northwest will face three opponents in the polls during the 2006 season (PSU, WU and Nebraska-Omaha).

The Bearcats were No. 6 in the 2005 Street & Smith's poll. They come off an 11-4 season in which they advanced to the National Championship game against No. 1 Grand Valley State. Northwest has made it to the playoffs in eight of the last 10 seasons and compiled 11 or more wins in four of the last six campaigns.

The Bearcats will open their 2006 season at home against Minnesota State on Sept. 2, at 1:00 p.m.
