Three More Set to Play in 2006 Football Season

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Three additional athletes will join the Northwest Missouri State football ranks, announced head coach Mel Tjeerdsma. Junior Adam Barr (Puyallup, Wash.), a transfer from Butte (Calif.) Junior College; junior Matt Mosier (Piper, Kan.), a transfer from Butler County (Kan.) Community College (Kan.); and freshman Aldwin Foster-Rettig (Balch Springs, Texas), a 2006 graduate of West Mesquite (Texas) High School.

At Butte Junior College, Barr earned all-conference honorable mention laurels as offensive tackle. The 6' 6", 300-lb. junior was ranked 22nd in CEN JUCO in top offensive lineman categories. A 2004 graduate of Puyallup (Wash.) High School, Barr was a two-sport athlete in football and basketball.

"Adam was an outstanding offensive lineman in college," said Tjeerdsma. "If he can develop physically between now and camp, he has a chance to help us out right away."

A transfer from Butler Community College (Kan.), Mosier was a member of the 2004 NJCAA runner-up team, and was named a 2005 All-Jayhawk Community College Conference Honorable Mention Punter. The 6' 0", 189-lb. kicker/punter also recorded the 21st longest punt in the NJCAA last season, recording a 63-yard punt on Oct. 1. A 2004 graduate of Piper (Kan.) High School, Mosier was an all-metro first-team punter/kicker in 2003, and a honorable mention all-metro punter/kicker in 2002.

"Matt had a solid career at Butler," commented Tjeerdsma. "He brings a couple years of college experience, which is nice. He started punting and kicking as a freshman, and averaged nearly 40 yards as a sophomore."

Graduating from West Mesquite (Texas) High School in 2006, Foster-Rettig was named to the Class 4A All-District Academic Second Team. The 6' 1", 185-lb. safety was honored as the District 11 4A Honorable Mention safety

"Aldwin is an excellent student, and a great addition to our freshman class," said Tjeerdsma. "We look forward to having him for four years at Northwest."

The three men join 26 other athletes who have signed with Northwest for the 2006 season. The Bearcats will open their 2006 season at home against Minnesota State on Sept. 2, at 1:00 p.m.
