Bearcats Finish Season No. 2 in AFCA Poll

WACO, Texas - Northwest Missouri State football wrapped up the 2005 season with a national runner-up finish and a No. 2 spot in the final American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Division II coaches poll, announced on Tuesday (Dec. 13). The No. 2 final spot is the highest since the Bearcats won the 1999 National Championship.

The Bearcats lost to Grand Valley State 21-17 in the NCAA Division II National Championship last Saturday. It was the third appearance for Northwest in the title game.

Northwest joins three other Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) schools which include Pittsburg State (12), Washburn (13) and Missouri Western (25). The four MIAA reps is the most of any conference in the poll. Northwest was 5-4 against teams in the final top-25 this season.

Northwest was No. 3 in the final 2004 poll.
