Rector to Play in Cactus Bowl

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Northwest Missouri State senior wide receiver Andre Rector (Celeste, Tex.) was selected to play at the 2006 Division II Football Cactus Bowl. Rector is on the East offense and the game will be played Jan. 6, 2006 at 6:35 p.m. CST in Kingsville, Texas in Javelina Stadium. A three-time Second Team All-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) pick, Rector joins six other league players in this Division II All-Star game.

Rector ended his career sixth on the MIAA Career List (all games) with 3,049 yards receiving. He broke his brother, Jamaica's single-season school record of yards and catches. Andre went for 1,297 yards on 97 receptions in 2005. He posted a career-day in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead IV (Oct. 29) with 200 yards and 13 catches. On the year, he compiled six 100-yard games and went a stretch of seven contests with at least one touchdown score.

On the school career list, he finished third with 213 catches and third in yardage. After totaling 11 touchdown catches this year, Rector's 18 TDs ranks him fourth on the career list.

Three Bearcats participated in the 2005 Cactus Bowl in placekicker Luis Berlanga, defensive back Gabriel Helms and linebacker Adam Long.

Northwest wrapped up its 2005 season as the NCAA Division II national runner-up after a 21-17 loss against Grand Valley State on Saturday.
