Tollefson Earns AFCA All-America Accolades
WACO, Texas -- The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the Division II Coaches' All-America Team and Northwest Missouri State senior defensive end Dave Tollefson (Concord, Calif.) was mentioned on the Defense. Tollefson set the Northwest single-season sack total with 12.5 and stands with 21.0 in his career, just .5 shy of the lifetime mark.
Tollefson was the 2005 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MIAA selection. Totaling 52 tackles, Tollefson is first on the team with five QB hurries and second with 14.5 TFL's. This season, he posted 1.5 sacks in the season-opener against Minnesota State (Aug. 25). He came up .5 sacks shy of the single-game school record with 4.0 against Missouri Western (Sept. 17). In that game, he added a blocked punt and six tackles which earned him MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. The 2005 Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year finalist (given to Division II's top defensive or offensive lineman) has been invited to the Hula Bowl, which is a senior all-star game in January predominately played by Division I athletes.
Northwest is gearing up for the 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship played in Florence, Ala. on Saturday. Northwest faces No. 1 Grand Valley State (12-0) with kick-off at 3:00 p.m. and televised live on ESPN.
