Omon and Williams Selected to 2005 CollegeSportsReport.com Preseason All-America Team

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. -- Northwest Missouri State football sophomore running back Xavier Omon (Beatrice, Neb.) and senior defensive tackle Steve Williams (Bolingbrook, Ill.) have been considered on the 2005 CollegeSportsReport.com Preseason All Division II Team, announced late yesterday. This is the second preseason award for Omon and third for Williams in 2005.

Omon was a 2004 Honorable Mention Gazette and D2Football.com All-America running back and Second Team Daktronics All-Southwest Region pick at running back. In his freshman season which saw him set the single season rushing mark with 1,575 yards with 249 carries (6.3 average), he was a First Team All-MIAA offensive selection. He added 19 rushing touchdowns and went over 100 yards in six straight contests at one point and seven games overall. In NCAA statistics, Omon ranked 19th with 121.2 rushing yards per contest and 22nd in scoring (9.2). His 120 season points tied David Jansen in 1999 for the most by a non-kicker in school history. In just two playoff games, he totaled 149 rushing yards, which puts him fourth on the all-time school list and his three rushing TD's is tied for third. Omon received the team award for the Phil Voge Redshirt Freshman of the Year in 2004 and this preseason has been mentioned on Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-America Team.

Williams, a 2005 team captain, was the only unanimous pick on the 2004 All-MIAA Defensive First Team. He totaled 52 tackles, seven tackles-for-a-loss, 1.0 sack and recovered three fumbles. Williams picked up his first interception against Pittsburg State in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead, Nov. 6, 2004. The University of Indiana transfer was tabbed on the Daktronics Second Team All-America squad last season. He was an integral member of a defense to set the school record for fewest rushing yards allowed per game (94.0). Earlier in the preseason, Williams was listed on the 2005 Division II Street & Smith's All-America Team on defense and Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-America Team.
