Bearcats Sit No. 3 in Final 2004 AFCA Poll; Numerous 'Cats Earn Daktronics, & AP Little All-America Awards

WACO, Tex. -- The Northwest Missouri State football program ended the 2004 season with a No. 3 ranking in the the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches Poll, announced Dec. 14. The recognition is the highest since the national championship teams in 1998 and 1999 under current head coach Mel Tjeerdsma.

Northwest, who began the season at No. 19 in the AFCA poll, was ranked as high as No. 2 heading in to the undefeated match-up with No. 1 Pittsburg State Nov. 6. The Gorillas won 21-17 in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead III.

The Bearcats ended their season at 11-2 after a NCAA Division II Quarterfinal loss to No. 2 Pittsburg State, 50-34, Nov. 27.

**Individual Bearcats Earn Marks on the Daktronics, & AP Little All-America Teams**

Several Bearcats were honored on post-season award lists, adding more hardware to an already lengthy list. Released late last week, senior wide receiver/kick returner Jamaica Rector was named to three more All-America teams to lead the way. Junior defensive tackle Steve Williams was tabbed to two All-America clubs (Daktronics & while senior offensive tackle Brad Schneider, redshirt freshman running back Xavier Omon and senior linebacker Adam Long all received one honor apiece.
