Tysdahl Honored on Weekly MIAA List Northwest Jumps to No. 11 in the National Polls; Fan Bus Scheduled for Trip to Central Missouri

OVERLAND PARK, Mo. -- Senior linebacker Troy Tysdahl (Hubbard, Iowa) was named the Wilson® / Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league offices. The senior captain posted five tackles (three solos, four assists) in the 38-7 Bearcat victory over West Chester (Pa.) last Saturday.

"He had a really good week," said head coach Mel Tjeerdsma. "He made some big plays, first with the interception and the blocked field goal. He has been real consistent for the first two games and done a real good job with his leadership."

Tysdahl, who sits fifth on the team with 5.5 total tackles this season, had a hand in a couple big breaks for the 'Cats. He picked off a Bob Findora pass and returned it 13 yards - it was his third career interception. Also, as time expired in the second quarter, Tysdahl batted down a 27-yard Cody Collins field goal attempt. Fellow defender Gabriel Helms scooped up the fumble and returned it 83 yards for a Northwest score.

Tysdahl joined Robert Clardy (Offensive) from Southwest Baptist and Brandon Starks (Special Teams) from Central Missouri State as the other league winners.
