Northwest No. 19 in AFCA Coaches' Poll
Maryville, MO. -- Northwest Missouri State University football added its name to its fourth poll to begin the 2004 season, this time No. 19 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' Poll (Aug. 24), announced today. Earlier, the 'Cats were tabbed No. 18 in the D2Football.com Top 25 Poll, No. 16 in the Lindy's National College Football Magazine and No. 22 in Street & Smith's College Football Magazine.
The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tied for second-most recipients (Long Star Conference) with three representatives in the poll. Pittsburg State (7) and Central Missouri State (10) join Northwest in the rankings. In addition, Emporia State (62) and Missouri Western (7) received votes for league institutions. West Chester (Penn.), the 'Cats second opponent of the season (Sept. 4), garnered 20 votes on the list.
Northwest opens up the 2004 campaign with a home tilt against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference member Minnesota State, Moorhead Saturday, Aug. 28. Kick-off begins at 1:00 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
