'Cats Hold Down the No. 18 Spot in Top 25 Poll

MARYVILLE, MO. -- Northwest Missouri State University was recognized in another 2004 preseason football poll, this time No. 18 in the Top 25 Poll, announced today. This is the third 2004 occasion the 'Cats have made Top 25 headlines; Northwest is No. 16 in the Lindy's National College Football Magazine and No. 22 in Street & Smith's College Football Magazine.

In addition, senior wide receiver/kick returner Jamaica Rector (Celeste, Tex.) was an honoree on the 2004 Top 25 Poll 2nd Team Offense. The two-time All-America selection has already been honored in 2004 on the Don Hansen's Football Gazette Preseason All-America Team. The Celeste, Tex. native needs just 421 yards to become the MIAA's all-time leading receiver in yards, passing Truman State's Andrew Blakley. For his career, Rector has averaged 67 receptions and 1,098 yards per season (an average of 102.9 yards per game). The 2003 Daktronics/CoSIDA 2nd Team
honoree holds season and career school records in receptions, receiving yardage and punt returns.

Northwest opens up the 2004 campaign with a home tilt against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference member Minnesota State, Moorhead Saturday, Aug. 28. Kick-off begins at 1:00 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
