Bearcats Rated No. 16 in Lindy's Preseason Poll
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Another national publication has ranked Northwest Missouri State University's football team in its Preseason Top 25. The Bearcats are No. 16 in the Lindy's National College Football magazine Division II ranking. Previously, Northwestwas ranked No. 22 by Street & Smith's College Football Magazine.
There are four MIAA schools in the Lindy's Top 25, with Pittsburg State ranked No. 6, Central Missouri State at No. 8 and Emporia State and No. 23. There are also 10 schools from the newly-created Southwest Region of NCAA Division II in the Lindy's Top 25. The four MIAA schools, along with Texas A&M-Kingsville at No. 9, Nebraska-Kearney at No. 11, Mesa State (Colo.) at No. 17, Central Oklahoma at No. 18, Tarleton State (Texas) at No. 19 and Chadron (Neb.) State at No. 21, are all in Northwest's new region. The MIAA, the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference have been combined to make up the Southwest region.
This is the eighth consecutive season that Northwest has been ranked in at least one national publication's preseason poll. The Bearcats return 13 starters from the 2003 squad, which finished 8-3 and won a share of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship. It was the seventh MIAA title won outright or shared by the Bearcats in the last eight years.
