Bearcats Bury Miners, 60-22

ROLLA, Mo. -The Northwest Missouri State University football team evened its overall record at 2-2 and its MIAA mark at 1-1 Saturday night in a 60-22 victory over Missouri-Rolla.

Northwest jumpedon top 21- in the first quarter and never looked back. Pat Whitt (Soph., Springfield, Mo.) scored the first of two defensive touchdowns for the Bearcats to open the scoring. He scooped up a UMR fumble and returned it 12 yards for a score.

The Bearcats took advantage of another Miner fumble on the ensuing kickoff. After recovering the fumble, Shon Wells(Jr., Rolla, Mo.) scored on a two-yard run four plays later. A Mike Fiech(Jr., Inwood, Iowa) three-yard scoring run capped a 79-yard drive late in the first quarter.

Josh Lamberson (Soph., Wilber, Neb.) pushed it to 28-0 in the second quarter with a 14-yard run on a fake field goal. UMR scored the next 10 points to pull within 18, 28-10.

Jamaica Rector(Jr., Celeste, Texas) pulled in a six-yard touchdown pass from Lamberson. Darryl Ridley (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) capped the first-half scoring with a 53-yard interception return and the 'Cats led 42-10 at the intermission.

Each team added a TD in the third quarter, while UMR's two-point conversion failed, leaving the score 49-16 after three periods. UMR capitalized on another Northwest trunover to score early in the fourth. The Miners returned an interception to the Northwest 24-yard line. Three plays later, the Miners found the end zone and made it 49-22. The two-point conversion was fumbled and Troy Tysdahl (Jr., Hubbard, Iowa) scored Northwest's first-ever defensive extra point, returning the ball more than 70 yards for the two opints to go on top 51-22.

The Bearcats added a safety when UMR sent a punt snap over the punter's head and through the end zone. Mitch Herring (Soph., Maryville, Mo.) scored from three yards out after a UMR fumble to round out the scoring.

Lamberson passed for 95 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 91 yards and a score. Rector hauled in four passes for 94 yards. Defensively, the 'Cats were led by Ridley, who forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and returned an interception for a TD.
