Phillip Dowden

DowdenPhillip has served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations and Communications at Northwest Missouri State since 2011. At Northwest, Dowden oversees the media relations efforts for all 16 varsity sports.

Along with serving as the athletics media contact, Dowden also is in charge of NorthwestBearcats.com and has helped increase the Bearcats’ social media following along with improving their presence on Facebook and Twitter.

Prior to beginning his tenure at Northwest, Dowden spent two years as the Assistant Director for Athletics Media Relations at Abilene Christian University. At ACU, Dowden helped with publicize all 14 varsity sports. He also worked as part-time "Voice of the Wildcats" broadcasting team, helping with play-by-play and color for ACU basketball and nationally ranked baseball and football teams. He was also instrumental in helping improve the webcasting of home ACU football, basketball, baseball and volleyball games.

He also helped implement new media on the ACU Athletic website launching the Wildcat Sports Network where all football games along with select basketball, volleyball, softball and baseball games can been seen online as well as a part of the local cable network's On-Demand feature.

Dowden has also served as a Media Relations Assistant at the 2012 NCAA Men's Midwest Regional in St. Louis and at the 2010 NCAA Women's Final Four and 2011 NCAA Men's Southwest Regional in San Antonio. He also helped the media relations staff during the 2011 FCS National Championship game in its inaugural year in Frisco, Texas.

Prior to ACU, Dowden worked in operations with the American Junior Golf Association in Braselton, Georgia, helping run national junior golf tournaments.

Dowden earned his bachelor's degree in 2008 from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. At Missouri Southern, Dowden worked as a student assistant in the Lions Sports Information Office.

Each year he continues to help work with the Missouri State High School Activities Association and the Missouri State Baseball Championships as the offical scorer for all classes. Also since 2003 he has officiated high school basketball in the states of Missouri and Texas, where he has officiated numerous high school regular season and postseason games of all classes.

He is also a member of the College Sports Information Directors Association since 2009 and a member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association since 2010.

Phillip resides in Maryville with his fiancé, Cassi.
