Poole races to NCAA berth at Region Championships
JOPLIN, Mo. – Brittany Poole ran to her best finish of her career Saturday morning earning a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and Ryan Darling broke a 34-year-old school record at the Central Region Championships.
Poole captured the seventh place individual finish with her personal best time covering the 6k course in 21:24.1. The senior now earns a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships Nov. 17, which will also be held on the campus of Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
As a team the Bearcat women did not keep up with their senior teammate. Northwest went on to finish 10th in the Central Region as Augustana (S.D.) ran away with the team title. Winona State and University of Mary rounded out the top three teams as the Bearcats were the fifth highest MIAA team to finish in a packed region of 26 teams.
On the men’s side senior Ryan Darling again paced the Bearcats as the top finisher. Darling saved his best race for last, as the Prairieville, La. native finished 20th with a time of 30:53.99 breaking his dad’s, Vernon Darling, school record of 30:55.
As a team, the Northwest men finished seventh in the 23 team Central Region. Augustana (S.D.) took the men’s title as with Missouri Southern running to a second place finish, as only three teams including the Lions placed higher than the Bearcats.
