Bearcats finish 5th at MIAA Cross Country meet
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s and women’s cross country teams both ran to a 5th place finish at the MIAA championship Saturday at the Maryville Country Club.
Ryan Darling kept up his solid senior campaign as he finished fifth in the field of 84. Darling’s time of 25:41.94 was 30 seconds behind the first place finisher.
Drew Keefer finished just outside of the top 10. Keefer ran 25:52.32 on the course which put him finishing 11th.
The men as a team walked away with a fifth place finish in the MIAA Cross Country Championship as Fort Hays State took home the team championship. Southwest Baptist finished second followed by Missouri Southern.
Cory Keehn of FHSU took home the individual title with a time of 25:11.12.
Brittany Poole paced the Northwest women with a time of 22:47.02, which was good enough for an eight place finish. Truman’s Karen Grauel was the top finisher on the women’s side with a time of 22:11. 59.
Anne Herbert covered the 6k course in a time of 23:06.65 on Saturday and finished 12th among the 96 runners in the women’s division.
The women’s team also finished fifth in the MIAA championships.
Both Northwest teams will be back in action Nov. 3 for the Central Region Championships in Joplin, Mo. The top five teams on the women’s side and top four teams for the men advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 17. The NCAA Championships will also be hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin.
