Darling and Poole pace Northwest to sweep
HAYS, Kan. – Ryan Darling and Brittany Poole each raced to first place finishes at the Fort Hays State Open pacing the Northwest men’s and women’s cross country teams to team titles Saturday morning.
Poole was joined by teammate Jordan Esry for a 1-2 finish as Poole clocked a time of 17:40.33 while Esry covered the 5k course in a time of 18:21.48. The first place finish was the second of the 2012 season for Poole as she also took home the title at the Bearcat Open to start the season.
Taylor Woodruff gave the Northwest women three top five finishers with her fourth place finish. Woodruff finished with a time of 18:27.23 as the Bearcats edged out Colorado College and host Fort Hays State, who finished second and third respectively.
The Northwest men placed four individuals in the top 10 led by Darling and freshman Nolan Zimmer. Darling covered the 8k course with in a time of 24:24.64 to take home first place while Zimmer was fourth with a time of 24:53.27.
Jake Henry and Drew Keefer finished sixth and seventh, helping the Bearcats take a sweep of first place titles at the Fort Hays State Open. Henry’s time of 24:54.67 was just a touch better than Keefer who was on his heels finishing with a time of 24:57.97.
Host Fort Hays State finished second, followed by Allen County Community College in third, Colorado College in fourth and Friends University to round out the top five.
Both Northwest men and women take a week off before gearing up for the MIAA Cross Country Championships Oct. 20. The Bearcats will host this year’s championships at the Maryville Country Club.
