Poole paces Bearcats at Northwest Open
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Brittany Poole claimed the 2012 Northwest Open title, as the senior paced the Bearcat men’s and women’s cross country teams to a pair of first place finishes at the Maryville Country Club Friday evening.
The women finished with seven runners in the top 10 while the men placed six runners in the top 10. Ryan Darling was the top finisher for the Bearcat men finishing second overall.
Poole’s time of 22:52.7 was good enough to give her a top 10 time in the Northwest record books. She was followed by teammate Maci Hicks who finished third and Jordan Esry gave Northwest three runners in the top five. Hicks finished with a time of 23:24.9 while Esry clocked a time of 23:37.9.
Senior Ryan Darling took home top honors for the Northwest men covering the 8k course in 25:59.8. Darling finished 12th at last fall’s MIAA Cross Country Championships.
Drew Keefer finished fourth, followed by Nolan Zimmer giving the men three runners in the top five as well. Keefer recorded a time of 26:20.8 as Zimmer raced to a time of 26:36.8.
The action for Northwest heats up next weekend as the Bearcats head north to the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.
