Bearcats Run at Jackling Jocks Invitational
ROLLA, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University men's and women's cross country teams competed strongly at the Jackling Jocks Invitational Saturday. The men finished second out of nine teams, while the Bearcat women placed sixth out of ten teams.
For the women, Katti Carroll finished the 5k second overall with a time of 18:02. Carroll would be the only top ten finisher for the Bearcats today. Missouri Southern's Marlee Tegenkamp won the 5k with a time of 17:56. Heidi Johnson would be the next Northwest runner to cross the line with a time of 19:07 in 14th position.
Jordan Esry, Hana Speaks, Tasha Sherman, Amanda Cushing, and Megan Jacobsen also ran for the Bearcats at the Invitational.
Currently the Northwest women's team is ranked 21st in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
TR Pursell once again paced the Bearcat men. Pursell ran an 8k time of 25:44, finishing in third place. Harding's Philip Biwott won the 8k with a time of 25:19. Zach Layton and Ryan Darling finished in 7th and 9th-place respectively for Northwest. Layton ran a time of 26:00, while Darling finished with a time of 26:03.
Drew Keefer, Jake Henry, Kit Anderson, and Clay Martin competed as well.
Up Next: Northwest will be off the next two weeks and will return to action Oct. 22 when they head to Missouri Southern for the MIAA Championships. In the 2011 preseason coaches' polls the Bearcat women were tabbed third in the MIAA with the men picked to place fourth.
