MIAA Cross Country Polls Released
KANSAS CITY, Mo - Northwest Missouri State University was picked to finish fourth in the men's cross country preseason coaches poll and third in the women's poll as announced by the league office on Monday.
On the men's side the Mules took home the seven first place votes (coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team) while Missouri Southern grabbed the other lone first place nod. Southern and Pittsburg State tied with 38 points each in the poll followed by the Bearcats in fourth.
Southwest Baptist was picked fifth followed Fort Hays State, Truman, and Emporia State finished the eight schools that compete in men's cross country.
The Bearcats and Bulldogs were tied in third behind Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern in the women's poll. Each team split three first place votes to tie for the first place nod, while Northwest did however receive one first place vote while Truman picked up two.
Southwest Baptist rounds out the top five followed by Fort Hays State and Central Missouri. Emporia State was picked eighth with Lincoln rounding out the women's selections.
Northwest opens the 2011 season at home on Sept. 9 at the Northwest Bearcat Open with the MIAA Championships returning to Joplin on the campus of Missouri Southern.
