Press Release

Lil Sis' Big Day

Jordan Esry, Sophomore

Saturday November 7th was a good day to run! It was the Regional Cross Country meet for Northwest and the Missouri State meet for high schools. It was an exciting day for me because both Northwest and my former high school team ran well. Since I've been injured and did not get to run in the regional meet I decided to go to the Missouri State meet in Jefferson City and watch my little sister, who is a freshman, and her teammates run. It was difficult not to be able to run around the course, but being able to watch was the next best thing. They ended up winning the Missouri Class 1 State Championship for the sixth consecutive year. It was neat for me, personally, to get to watch my sister help keep the streak of state titles alive with some of the same girls that I got to compete with.

My day got even better after Anno O'Brien texted me that Northwest had finished 5th out of 21 teams at the Regional Meet in Abeline, Texas. She went on to tell me that Angela Adams placed 14th overall, earning All-Region accolades as a sophomore. Anna finished in 18th place, Kayli Hrdlicka in 49th, Brittney Poole in 53rd, Mary Jantz in 57th, Jane Bowness in 60th, and Jen Dittburner in 65th. Angela's time of 22:29, ranks second on Northwest's all-time list, only second to Anna O'Brien's time of 22:09 set in 2007. Angela wasn't the only one with a PR, four other girls did too. Five out of seven PR's in one race isn't too bad.

I am sad that the regional meet was the last cross country meet for three of the girls, Jane, Jen and Anna. I think it's pretty safe to say that we will all miss running with them and being pushed by them in practice next year.

As you can tell, I had a great Saturday and a great time writing this blog this cross country season. I hope that it has given you a little inside look on our cross country team and that you have enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for following!
