Northwest Men Finish Second at Emporia
EMPORIA, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State placed seven runners in the top 15 and finished second at Emporia State's Planet Sub Invitational Friday at Jones Park. The host-Hornets won the event with a team score of 31. Northwest's 40 points were 18 ahead of third-place finisher Johnson Community College.
T.R. Pursell led Northwest with a fourth-place finish. His eight-kilometer time of 25:48.49 was 12 seconds back of champion Adam McGovern of Emporia State. The Hornets had three runners finish in the top five.
Trevor Johannsen (sixth), Zach Layton (eighth) and Clay Martin (10th) gave the Bearcats five runners in the top 10. Jared Walker and Jake Henry placed 12th and 13th, respectively. Seven of Northwest's 10 runners ran personal-best times for an 8K race.
Ten teams competed in the event consisting of Community College, NAIA and Division II schools. Northwest and Emporia State were the lone representatives from the MIAA.
