Perfect Day, Great Results
Jordan Esry, Sophomore
We left Friday and headed to Emporia, Kan., for the MIAA Championship meet on Saturday. When we got there we went to the course to jog it and scout it out. Later that night we went and ate supper where we carbo-loaded for the next day's race. We then enjoyed a bus ride back to the hotel while listening to Mary Jantz attempting to rap. This was quite amusing, take my word for it! We capped off our night with a team meeting.
Saturday turned out to be a perfect day for running; it was fairly cool and not too windy. The race unfolded well for us. I think everyone positioned themselves well from the beginning and this was key for the end results. Angela Adams finished first for our team in 12th place in a good time of 22:43. She was followed by Anna O'Brien in 21st, Kayli Hrdlicka in 23rd, Jane Bowness in 33rd, Jen Dittburner in 39th, Mary Jantz in 41st, and Brittney Poole in 42nd to round out the top seven.
With these places we were able to put together a team score of 128 points for a fourth-place finish. Everyone was pretty excited about this! We hadn't finished that well in quite a while in the MIAA. We definitely earned this place. I know that the girls have been working very hard, especially on workout days.
We now have less than two weeks until the South Central Regional Meet in Abilene, Texas. We will get a shot at all of the MIAA schools again and schools from some other conferences as well. As long as we stay healthy, I believe that we will have another very good meet!
Well that's all I have for now. Thanks for reading! Talk to you soon!
