Northwest Cross Country Teams Place Third
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's cross country teams both placed third out of eight teams at the Gibson Family Invitational co-hosted by DePauw University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Saturday. The Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course will serve as host to the 2009 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships.
Division I Purdue took the women's title and placed second on the men's side. Shawnee State, led by individual champion Corey Culbertson, won the men's title.
Zach Layton and T.R. Pursell placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with eight-kilometer times of 26:04 and 26:08 to pace the Northwest men. It's the second straight top-10 finishes for both competitors. Clay Martin took 12th place with a season-best time of 26:17 and Trevor Johannsen was 18th with a finish of 26:24.
Angela Adams led the Bearcat women for the second race in a row and Anna O'Brien was again Northwest's number two. Adams placed ninth with a six-kilometer time of 23:44. O'Brien was 14th at 24:07.
A pack of Bearcats - Kayli Hrdlicka, Brittany Poole, and Mary Jantz - placed within 10 seconds of one another and took places 18th, 21st and 22nd, respectively. Jennifer Dittburner was 25th and crossed in a time of 24:42.
