Winning at Emporia
Jordan Esry, Sophomore
I enjoyed my week of no tests last week and I only have one this week. Next week, though, I have four tests again so I'm trying to get ahead of the game and study for some of them now. Other than the tests coming up everything is going pretty smooth on the school front. I cannot believe that next week marks the middle of the semester! This first half has really flown bye!
Running wise, we competed in a meet in Emporia, Kan., this past weekend. There were 10 teams and we won! Individually, Angela Adams was first on the team, placing second overall. She was followed by Anna O'Brien, Kayli Hrdlicka, Mary Jantz, Brittney Poole, Jen Dittburner and Jane Bowness to round out the top seven. There were 101 total runners in the race and our five scorers were in the top 13. This created a hard-to-beat team score of 34 points.
I did not get to compete due to a hip injury, but several of the girls said that it was nice to have the opportunity to scope out the course before we run on it again in just a few weeks for the MIAA Championships. They also said that after the race was done they felt like they could have raced harder so they were a little disappointed. I think that knowing these things will play into our favor over teams in the conference who have not raced on the course.
Our last meet before the MIAA Championships is this Saturday at the DePauw Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. I know that the girls did a tough workout today and have one more this week to get ready for the meet.
I cannot wait to update you on how the meet goes! Thanks for reading!
