Bearcat Women Win Planet Sub Invite
EMPORIA, Kan.-Four Bearcats finished in the top 10 and seven placed in the top 20 to lead the Northwest Missouri State women's cross country team to a first-place finish at Emporia State's Planet Sub Invitational Friday at Jones Park.
It's the first team title for Northwest in a meet outside of its own since 1997 when the Bearcats' won their third consecutive MIAA championship. Northwest topped nine other teams including conference foes Emporia State and Nebraska-Omaha, which placed second and fifth, respectively.
Angela Adams finished second in a time of 18:45.18 - the ninth fastest five-kilometer time in Northwest history. Anna O'Brien's crossing at 19:02.94 was good for fourth place, marking her 11th top-10 finish in 21 collegiate races. O'Brien missed the team's prior race due to injury.
Kayli Hrdlicka and Mary Jantz placed seventh and ninth, respectively, and Brittany Poole completed the team scoring with a 12th-place finish. Northwest's team score of 34 was 16 points better than Emporia State.
The race featured more than 100 competitors, including 10 runners from Northwest. Seven Bearcat runners ran their personal best times in a 5K race. Jennifer Dittburner placed 13th with a personal-best time of 19:37.69. Jane Bowness' 19:48.53 placed her 20th.
