Press Release

Sept. 28, 2009

Tests, Woody Greeno, & Emporia

Jordan Esry, Sophomore

Hey everyone!

Sorry it has been a while…I started to write last weekend but got busy with school work and studying for tests. I'm glad that this past week is over because I had four tests to try and study for. I'm looking forward to no tests this week and hopefully getting to relax a little.

Our last meet was on September 19 at the Woody Greeno Invitation in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was a very good meet for our team and a big confidence builder. Anna O'Brien and I were both injured so we took the role of cheerleaders. It was difficult to just watch the meet but at the same time it was exciting to watch our teammates run so well.

In the girl's race there were 266 total runners and 27 complete teams. Kayli Hrdlicka finished first on our team in 53rd place and six seconds behind her was Mary Jantz in 60th. The spread between our first and fifth runners was 25 seconds and 51 seconds separated first and seventh. I told you we had been pack running lately! Anna and I could barley catch our breaths between cheering for people. It was very exciting!

As a team we placed 10th overall and sixth in the college division. Needless to say, we all left the meet in good spirits.

Since that meet we have had a good week of practice. On Friday, we did one of our toughest workouts. We ran a mile hard on the track, did a tempo-paced run on the road, and then finished on the track with some 300-meter intervals with what we had left. It was a hard workout, but those are the ones that make you better.

We have a few more practices until our next meet on Friday, October 2, in Emporia, Kansas. This meet will be just a 5k, where the Woody Greeno meet was a 6k. We are looking forward to this meet because there will be other conference schools there and it is the course that the MIAA Championships will be held on in less than a month. We are anxious to scout out the course and see how we have improved in the two weeks since our last meet.

We are looking forward to competing Friday and I can't wait to tell you how it goes!

Thanks for reading! Talk to you next week!
