Men Seventh, Women 10th at Woody Greeno
LINCOLN, Neb.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's cross country teams placed seventh and 10th, respectively, at the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska Saturday at Pioneer Park.
Eight Northwest women and four Bearcat men set new personal best times in the 6K and 8K, respectively. Junior Kayli Hrdlicka topped the women with a time of 23:00.48, an improvement of nearly two-and-a-half minutes on her top time. She placed 50th of 266 competitors. Sophomore Zach Layton led the men with a time of 25:56.5, an improvement of 12 seconds. Layton placed 19th of 341 competitors.
Twenty-seven teams competed in the men's race while 26 took part in the women's. The Bearcat men topped Wichita State and Emporia State among others. The list of teams the women bested included Creighton, Emporia State and Nebraska-Omaha.
Hrdlicka's time is among the top 12 in program history. Her six teammates all finished within 52 seconds of her pace. Mary Jantz finished six seconds back in 56th place, Jane Bowness finished 64th with a time of 23:17.63 and Angela Adams took 67th with a mark of 23:19.38.
Layton finished 20 seconds ahead of teammate T.R. Pursell, who placed 36th. Trevor Johannsen placed 48th with a time of 26:40.55 and Clay Martin took 56th with a time of 26:53.95.
Northwest has two meets remaining before competing in the conference meet Oct. 24. The next event on the slate is the Emporia State Invitational Oct. 3.
