Bearcat Open A Success
Jordan Esry, Sophomore
Hey Bearcat cross country fans!
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who came out to support us as we ran on our home course Saturday. It is always nice to hear familiar voices cheering for you all over the course.
So the 2009 season for Bearcat cross country is officially underway and overall it started out pretty well. Our home meet was fairly small with just four schools in the girls' race, but it was a nice way to get the season started. The schools who competed were William Jewell College, Highland Community College, Peru State College, and of course, Northwest. Anna O'Brien won the race individually and we won as a team with 18 points.18 is a pretty good team score considering 15 is a perfect one.
To add just a little more friendly competition to the meet, Coach Lorek divided the Northwest team into two teams, Northwest White and Northwest Green. On the Northwest White team was Mary Jantz, Jess Nichols, Jane Bowness, Jen Dittburner, Laney Deligianis and myself. On the Northwest Green team was Anna O'Brien, Kayli Hrdlicka, Angela Adams, Madison Marshman and Megan McElroy. The White team narrowly won with a final team score of 27, just 1 point ahead of the Green team which finished with 28 points. It was fun to have this little competition within the team, but at the end of the day all that really mattered was how we did as a total team.
Despite some individuals not having as good of races as they had wanted, it was a good meet for us as a the team. We are looking forward to getting in a good week of training before our next meet on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Woody Greeno Invitational that is hosted by the University of Nebraska. This will be a big meet with many Division-I and Division II schools competing. We are looking forward to the competition and seeing how we will finish as a team.
Thanks for reading! Talk to you next week!
