Northwest Men and Women Sweep Bearcat/Spoofhound Open
Maryville, Mo. -The Northwest Missouri cross country teams finished the Bearcat/Spoofhound Open on top for the third year in a row. Senior Anna O'Brien finished first in the women's 5K race with a time of 19:19. Senior Trevor Johannsen was the top collegiate finisher in the 4-mile men's race with a time of 21:17.
The men and women have finished first the last three consecutive years. T.R. Pursell finished second. He has finished in the top three for the men the past three seasons. Last season Pursell finished the meet at 21:23, and ran a 21:27 today.
For the women, seven of the top eight finishers were Bearcats. Jess Connery of William Jewell finished third. The Northwest women had a team total of 18, followed by William Jewell with a total of 54. Seven of the Northwest men also finished in the top eight of collegiate runners. The Bearcat men scored 15 team points.
"Not everyone finished where they would have liked to," Coach Scott Lorek said. "I'm happy with the results though."
Next week the team will compete in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
