Layton Places 12th at NCAA Regional
SAN ANTONIO, Texas-Northwest Missouri State freshman Zach Layton ran the ninth-fastest 10-kilometer race in program history and placed 12th at the NCAA South Central Regional Meet Saturday at Live Oak City Park. University of the Incarnate Word served as the regional host.
Layton ran his first collegiate 10K in a time of 32 minutes flat. The Bearcats finished 12th of 22 teams with a team score of 262. Junior Trevor Johannsen, who earned All-MIAA honors two weekends ago for the Bearcats, finished 27th of 151 competitors with a time of 32:43.
Freshman Brittany Poole turned in the fastest 6K time for the Bearcat women this season and placed 60th of 130 runners with a time of 24:06. Sophomore Mary Jantz finished two seconds behind Poole in 61st place.
Jane Bowness (66th), Maggie McManigal (69th) and Angela Adams (73rd) rounded out Northwest's top five finishers. The Bearcat women placed 14th of 19 teams with a team score of 329.
Abilene Christian's men and Missouri Southern's women took the team titles. Abilene Christian's Julius Nyango won the men's race with a time of 30:10. Karunde Winrose gave ACU the sweep after winning the women's race with a time of 20:45.
