Cross Country Teams To Compete at Regionals
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's cross country teams are making their first trip to San Antonio, Texas, where both teams are geared to compete at Saturday's NCAA South Central Regional at University of the Incarnate Word.
The men's 10-kilometer race will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 6-kilometer race to follow at 10:30 a.m. Both events will take place at Live Oak City Park.
Northwest will compete against 19 and 22 other teams on the men's and women's side, respectively. In addition to teams from the MIAA, members of the Lone Star and Heartland Conferences are scheduled to compete.
The top three teams in each race along with the top two individual finishers not associated with one of those three teams will advance to the NCAA national championship meet Nov. 22 in Slippery Rock, Pa.
Northwest last competed at the MIAA championship meet where both teams placed eighth. Trevor Johannsen and Zach Layton finished ninth and 10th, respectively, to earn all-conference honors for the Bearcat men. Jessica Nichols was the top finisher for the Northwest women, finishing 30th with a season-best time of 24:27.71.
This will be the first 10K race ran by the men this season. The previous four meets in which they competed, including the MIAA championships, were 8K races.
