Three Bearcats Place in Top 20 at Loper Open
KEARNEY, Neb. - Three Northwest runners finished in the top 20 as the Bearcat cross country teams competed in the inaugural Loper Open today, hosted by Nebraska-Kearney at the Kearney Country Club. The men finished fourth of eight teams and the women placed fifth out of nine squads.
Zach Layton led the men with a season-best 26:22.9 in the eight-kilometer course and finished 15th among 80 runners. Ben Chappell cut more than 30 seconds off his eight-kilometer time with a run of 26:31.2 to finish 19th overall and second for the Bearcats. Five men lowered their 8K times in their final regular season meet of the season.
The top two women runners ran their first six-kilometer race of the season. Angela Adams led the Bearcats for the third time this season with 24:11.1 to finish 17th overall while Brittney Poole placed 21st overall and second for Northwest with 24:30.1. Three Bearcats, Maggie McManigal, Mary Jantz and Jessica Nichols finished 29-30-31, respectively, to round out the Northwest top five.
Up Next: Both Northwest teams take next weekend off before heading to the MIAA Championships Oct. 25. Central Missouri will host the championships at the Keth Memorial Golf Course in Warrensburg, Mo.
