Northwest Men To Compete at Roy Griak Invitational
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Saturday, the Northwest men's cross country team will be in Falcon Heights, Minn., to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational. Starting at 11:20 a.m., the men will run an 8K on the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Bearcats competed at the Roy Griak in 2006 and finished 17th of 51 teams. Ryan Gates is the only current Bearcat who raced in 2006. He placed 353rd out of 500 runners with a time of 30:03.
The University of Minnesota is expecting that this year will be the largest race in the 23-year history of the event. There will be approximately 350 teams with about 4,000 runners in all. Twenty-four teams are expected to compete in Division II. Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist, in addition to Northwest, are expected to represent the MIAA.
Last weekend, the Bearcats were at the Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska and finished 14th of 21 teams. Zach Layton finished 34th of 324 runners with a time of 26:39.6 and Trevor Johannsen finished in 50th place with a time of 27:05.0.
