Three Northwest Runners Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
Maryville, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State student-athletes Anna O'Brien, Karah Spader and Maggie McManigal were named to the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USFCCCA) All-Academic Team released Monday.
Spader, a senior, was also named to the team in 2006. She finished second among Northwest running in every meet this year and set a personal-best 6K time of 22:44.6 at the NCAA South Central Regional meet Nov. 3.
O'Brien, a junior, finished first among Northwest runners in every meet this year and also set a personal-best time at the regional meet. O'Brien ran the 6K race in a school-record time of 22:09.7, which earned her a ninth-place finish and broke the previous mark by 32 seconds. O'Brien also received All-MIAA honors at the MIAA championship meet with a fourth-place finish and a time of 23:27.46.
McManigal, a sophomore, finished 42nd at the regional meet with a time of 23:13.4, which places her fifth in the Northwest record book. McManigal finished third for the Bearcats in three of the four meets in which she competed.
To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.
