Northwest Cross Country Finishes Second, Third at Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. - Junior Matt Pohren (Omaha, Neb.) finished sixth overall to lead the Bearcat men's cross country team to a second place finish at the Concordia Invitational on Sat. Oct. 8. Freshman Anna O'Brien (Easton, Mo.) also finished sixth overall in the women's division to lead Northwest to a third place team finish in Seward, Neb.

Pohren finished the 8K race in 26:41, finishing first for Northwest for the third time this season out of four races. Brandon Dart (Fremont, Neb.) crossed the line in ninth place with a time of 27:04, while Austin Huerta (Mesa, Ariz.) earned his first top-three finish for the Bearcats, finishing tenth overall out of 44 runners.

O'Brien finished with a time of 19:36 in the 5K race, finishing first for the Bearcats for the fifth time out of five races this season. Karah Spader (York, Neb.) finished seventh overall, crossing the line at 19:37, one second behind O'Brien. Maggie McManigal (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Dia McKee (O'Fallon, Mo.) rounded out the top-20 runners overall, each finishing 14th and 17th, respectively.

The top male runner was Andrew Walquist from Concordia University, who finished in 25:36. Jacquelyn Dibbern of Concordia finished first in the women's division with a time of 19:01. Concordia University took top team honors in both men's and women's divisions.

Both Northwest teams will be off this coming weekend, as they prepare for the MIAA Championships on Oct. 22 in Pittsburg, Kan. Races will begin at 10:30 A.M.
