
The Bearcat men took fifth place out of 16 teams with a score of 149 and missed qualifying for nationals by one place. Abilene Christian won the men's regional with a score of 26, followed by Truman State (69), Central Missouri State (115) and Missouri Southern (118).
John Heil (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) led the men in 13th place overall in a time of 31:50.60. Kyle Keraus (Sr., Garner, Iowa) paced Heil in 15th place in a time of 32:14.70. Both Heil and Keraus took All-South Central Regional honors in their last race as Bearcats by placing in the top 15.
Chad Fowler (Sr., Kearney, Mo.) took the third spot on the team with a 32nd place finish (33:04.10). Bryan Touney (Fr., Lake Lotawana, Mo.) finished up a solid freshman season by finishing 37th in a time of 33:18.80. Jamison Phillips (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.), who had to withdraw from the MIAA Championships two weeks ago due to injury, place 53rd overall (33:47.50).
The Northwest women went into the regional meet unranked in the top ten but came away with a 10th place finish. MIAA leaders Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern finished one-two, respectively, in the region.
Ashley Grosse (Jr., Blue Springs, Mo.) once again broke her 6K personal record time of 23:49.23, which she set at the MIAA Conference meet Oct. 25. She ran the regional course in a time of 23:42.90 to lead the women in 33rd place overall.
Megan Hamilton (Fr., Winfield, Iowa) also broke her 6K PR time of 25:20.72 set Oct. 25 by finishing 51st overall in a time of 24:21.90. Betsy Lee (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.) rounded off the top three finishers for the women, placing 56th in a time of 24:31.76.
