Men Fourth, Women Seventh at MIAA Championships

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University men's cross country team took home fourth place honors and two all-conference performers at the MIAA Championships Saturday in Kirksville, Mo.

John Heil (Sr., Excelsior Springs, Mo.) earned a spot on the MIAA All-
Conference squad with a seventh place overall finish. He ran the 8K
course in a time of 26:22.59. Kyle Keraus (Sr., Garner, Iowa) joined Heil as an All-MIAA runner by taking eighth place in a time of 26:42.48.

Chad Fowler (Sr., Kearney, Mo.) was third for the men, taking 16th place overall (27:06.80). Bryan Touney (Fr., Lake Lotawana, Mo.) finished 28th (27:25.74), and Drew Wilson (Fr.,Stanton, Iowa) finished 36th (27:56.07) to round out the men's top five leaders. Jamison Phillips (Sr., Chesterfield, Mo.), who has led the team in three meets this season, did not finish after suffering an ankle injury during the race.

Missouri Southern won the men's championship with 47 points, followed by Truman State with 48 points. Central Missouri State finished with 87 points to edge Northwest for third place. The Bearcats scored 92 points and ran the course in an average time of 27:06.74.

The Northwest women took seventh place at the meet with 172 points. Pittsburg State took the women's championship with 50 points, followed by Missouri Southern with 62 points.

Ashley Grosse (Jr., Blue Springs, Mo.) ran an all-time personal record to lead the Bearcats in the 6K race. She finished 16th overall in a time of 23:49.23. Dia McKee (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) trailed Grosse in 25th place in a time of 24:22.97.

Megan Hamilton (Fr., WInfield, Iowa) also ran a PR time of 25:20.72 to finish 39th in the race. Julie Toebben (So., Vichy, Mo.) and Betsy Lee (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for the women.

The Bearcats will be back in action at the South Central Regional Championships Nov. 8 in Commerce, Texas.
